Sediment filters are produced from fine melted polypropylene, which is then blown and spun into a sort of cylindrical form. The Polyspun filter's purpose is to remove unwanted fine particles from drinking water, such as sand, dirt, silt, and rust particles. The Removal of such particles allows Carbon Block and GAC filters to work normally and perform much better.
Applications
5 micron: used for removing silt, sediment, and other objects Sometimes used for prefiltration of sediment in the water before entering a UV sterilisation system, this will not reduce the colour of the water and can cause UV quartz sleeves to get colourized and need replacing sooner.
Sediment filters do not remove chemicals, heavy metals, bacteria, or dissolved particulate matter. They do not improve the taste or smell of water.
