GAC/KDF Filter Profile
-
Media: A specialised blend of Granular Activated Carbon and Copper-Zinc alloy.
-
Process: Uses "Redox" (electrolytic) reactions to neutralize contaminants alongside standard carbon absorption.
-
Contact Time: High; the alloy creates chemical reactions as water passes through.
-
Pressure Drop: Moderate; slightly more resistance than standard carbon but manageable for most systems.
-
Bacteria/Biofilm Control: When water is typically unchlorinated, it is prone to "biofilm" growth. KDF is bacteriostatic, meaning it kills bacteria on contact and prevents them from growing inside the filter.
-
Heavy Metal Removal: Effectively targets natural heavy metal runoff (like lead, mercury, or copper) often found in groundwater and old plumbing fixtures
-
Sulfur (Rotten Egg) Smell: Standard carbon filters clog or exhaust quickly when exposed to hydrogen sulfide; KDF chemically changes sulfide into a harmless solid that is easily filtered out.
-
Iron & Rust Protection: Helps convert dissolved iron into a filterable state, reducing the metallic "tang" and preventing orange staining on fixtures.
- Temperature Rating - 40-125°F (4.4-51.7°C)
- Size - 4.50" x 9.75" (114 mm x 248 mm)
- Micron rating 10
Suits most brands of whole home water filter systems Big blue & Jumbo systems
Small particles of carbon called carbon "fines" are present in a new GAC filter and should be generously flushed when first installed to wash away the carbon fines.
