Fridge Water Filters Guide

How often should you change your fridge water filter?

Every six months or when the indicator light alerts you. Some people drink lots of water and change filters every 3 months..

Genuine Brands vs aftermarket Filters?

High-quality "Compatible" filters are just as good. Not all non-genuine filters are "imitations." Brands like Spring Source or Eco Aqua are reputable third-party manufacturers. If a compatible filter is NSF/ANSI 42 or 53 certified, it has passed the same safety and performance tests as the genuine ones.

Our Brands:

  1. Genuine Filters: Recommended by fridge manufacturers, these filters are crucial for warranty coverage and come from renowned brands like Samsung, LG, Fisher & Paykel, and more.

  2.  Aftermarket Spring Source & Eco Aqua filters offer safe and fresh drinking water at an affordable price point.

Notice regarding Aftermarket Filter Keylock Mechanisms

Please be advised that all aftermarket filters in our inventory utilise a unique keylock mechanism. This specific design choice is a deliberate measure to ensure full compliance with intellectual property laws. By implementing a proprietary locking system, these filters avoid infringing upon the copyrighted and patented designs of other manufacturers, including the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).

Key points to note:

  • Design Integrity: Each aftermarket brand develops its own fitment interface to provide a secure seal without replicating protected structural elements.

  • Compatibility: While the internal filtration media meets or exceeds performance standards, the external locking interface is physically distinct from the original.

  • Legal Compliance: This ensures that the production and sale of these filters do not violate design rights held by the original brand owners.

Despite these mechanical differences in the "key" or "lock" interface, these filters are engineered to be fully compatible with their designated systems.

When replacing your fridge filter with an Aftermarket filter they may require a bit more attention to installation. Often the old filters are removed but not unlocked 100%. The best way to ensure your filter is unlocked correctly twist and turn the filter to remove but almost too far. This will ensure the fridge keylock mechanism is in good working condition will be placed int correct positon for the Aftermarket water filter with its unique design. They may require a push and turn when removing and installing on some models such as Samsung and Westinghouse Electrolux.

Prep & Pressure Relief

  • Shut off the water: Locate the cold water valve under your sink and turn it off.

  • Close the tank: If you have an RO system, turn the blue valve on top of the storage tank to the "off" position.

  • Relieve pressure: Open your filtered water faucet and wait for the water to stop flowing. This is the most important step for easy removal.

  • Removing the Old Filter The Quarter-Turn: Place a towel underneath the unit. Firmly grasp the old filter and turn it left (counter-clockwise) about 90 degrees

Pull Down: Once it hits the "stop" point, gently pull the filter straight down and out of the head.

    Installing the Aftermarket Filter

    • Remove the Cap: Take off the sanitary shipping cap from the top of the new filter.

    • Check the Lugs: Look at the "key" (the plastic tabs) on top of the filter. Align these with the slots in the filter head.

    • The "Push and Twist": 1. Push the filter up firmly into the head until it seats. 2. Turn it right (clockwise) a quarter-turn until it locks.

    • Note: Because aftermarket designs are proprietary to avoid copyright, you may feel a slightly tighter or different "click" than the original. This is normal.

    • Flushing & Leak Check Turn on the water: Slowly open your cold water supply.
    • The 5-Minute Flush: Open the faucet and let the water run for at least 5 minutes.

      • Expect "cloudy" or greyish water at first—this is just harmless carbon dust and air bubbles being flushed out.

    • Check for leaks: Wipe the unit dry and wait 2 minutes to ensure no moisture appears around the head.
